Practice nurses undertake numerous and varied tasks including: blood pressure and weight checks, ear syringing, cervical smears, immunisations, dressings and assisting at minor surgery. They are available to advise on minor ailments, stings and injuries as well as having specialist training in diabetes, heart disease, elderly care, respiratory disease, contraception, HRT and smoking cessation.

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement and new patient checks. They may act as a chaperone when a patient or doctor requests one.

Practice Management

Mrs Mandy Carr

Our Practice Manager Mandy is responsible for administration of the practice. She will be pleased to hear patient’s comments and suggestions on the service offered by the practice.

Reception

Reception Staff will be pleased to help you by booking routine and emergency appointments with both doctors and nurses, arranging repeat prescriptions and offering help and advice with any of your questions. It is a legal requirement that confidentiality of patient records is maintained at the highest level by all our staff.

Reception Staff Availability

Reception staff can be contacted by telephone from 8.00 am to 1.00 pm and from 2.00 pm to 6.15 pm on Monday to Friday. To speak face to face to a receptionist, patients can call at the main surgery at any time during normal opening hours (8.30 to 6.00 pm). Staff are available at the branch surgery in Chorleywood from 8.30 am to 12.30 pm and again from 3.30 pm to 6.15 pm.

Community Midwives

We will provide full antenatal and postnatal care, operating a “shared care” system with the community midwife and our local maternity unit at Watford Hospital. We also advise on pre-conception care.

Community Nurses

District nurses will visit housebound patients who are unable to visit the surgery. This can be arranged through your doctor or by the hospital. The district nurse also holds a clinic at Skidmore Way for dressings, removal of sutures and post operative wound care.

Health Visitors

Emma Kay

The health visitors are attached to the practice, working from Gade Surgery, Chorleywood. They offer support and advise to families with children under five years. They run a well child clinic in conjunction with a doctor or nurse for child development checks, baby weighing and to offer support with any child health concerns.The health visitors can be contacted on 01923 284034.

There is a drop-in support group at Westfield Childrens Centre, Croxley View, Watford, Tuesdays 11.00-12.30 contactable on 01923 208094.

BANK STAFF
